The New England Patriots will be without Julian Edelman for the foreseeable future, but it sounds as if the wideout could be back in time for a potential playoff run.

Edelman left Sunday’s eventual win over the New York Giants with an injury that reportedly turned out to be a broken foot. Edelman reportedly had surgery Monday, and according to NFL Media, the Patriots wide receiver will miss six to eight weeks after having a screw inserted into his left foot.

There’s never a good time for an injury to a player like Edelman, but the timing isn’t great. Edelman’s broken foot comes only one week after the Patriots lost running back Dion Lewis for the rest of the season to a knee injury. The silver lining with Edelman, of course, is he could be available to return for the playoffs, per the NFL Media report.

Edelman has become one of quarterback Tom Brady’s most trusted receivers, with 61 catches for 692 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Brady said Monday on WEEI Radio that he felt “terrible” for Edelman.
