Report: Peyton Manning Not Involved As Brock Osweiler, Broncos Prep For Bears

Peyton Manning has been conspicuously absent from the Denver Broncos’ ongoing preparation for the Chicago Bears.

NFL Media’s James Palmer reported Thursday night that the injured Manning — who won’t play Sunday in Chicago — hasn’t been part of the team’s preparation. In fact, Manning reportedly hasn’t attended practices or meetings and hasn’t even spoken to Broncos backup Brock Osweiler, who will start in Manning’s place.

It’s unclear how much can actually be read into the report, as Manning could be spending most of his time rehabbing multiple injuries, including a torn plantar fascia. But even if that is the case, it would be a little odd for the starting quarterback to not only skip meetings but to not even speak with his understudy.

It’s still unknown when Manning might make his return, and it’s unclear whether he’ll accompany the team to Chicago for Sunday’s game. It might benefit the Broncos to take their time with Manning’s return, if the various injuries are the biggest reason for a noticeable drop-off in his play. Manning played arguably the worst game of his career last week against Kansas City, completing just five of 20 passes for 35 yards while throwing four interceptions.
