The Seattle Seahawks’ fears about Marshawn Lynch’s injury have come true.

The Seahawks running back will have surgery Wednesday morning on his sports hernia, and he likely will miss one month while he recovers, a source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. This news comes two days after Lynch saw a specialist on abdominal injuries.

Lynch has been on the Seahawks’ injury report for the past few weeks. He gave it a go against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10, but he sat out Sunday in Seattle’s 29-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

This comes as a crushing blow for Seattle as it tries to make a late push for a playoff berth. As of now, the defending NFC champions would miss the playoffs with its 5-5 record. The Seahawks also have three games remaining against teams above .500, including this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Thomas Rawls, who ran for 209 yards and one touchdown last week, likely will start for Seattle while Lynch recovers. Rawls also saw significant playing time in Weeks 3, 4 and 5 while Lynch sat out with a hamstring injury, and posted two 100-yard games.
