Reports: Chargers’ Keenan Allen Out For Season With Lacerated Kidney

Philip Rivers’ job just became even more difficult.

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said Monday that wide receiver Keenan Allen would miss an indefinite period of time with a kidney injury. It now sounds like Allen won’t return this season.

The injury is a huge blow to the Chargers’ offense, as Allen ranks second in the NFL in receptions (67) and third in receiving yards (725). He also has four touchdown catches in eight games.

Stevie Johnson and Malcolm Floyd could see more targets with Allen sidelined. The Chargers also have two tight ends capable of making an impact in the passing game — All-Pro Antonio Gates and upstart Ladarius Green — so perhaps San Diego’s aerial attack will continue to thrive.

Either way, here’s hoping Allen has a speedy recovery, as this obviously qualifies as a significant injury.
