FOXBORO, Mass. — Tom Brady had high praise for Rob Gronkowski on Wednesday, and the big tight end returned the favor the next day.

Gronkowski was asked Thursday how it feels to be linked with Brady through history. Gronkowski already holds the record for most touchdowns caught from the Patriots quarterback, and he’s on pace to break Wes Welker’s record for most receptions and yards with Brady within the next few seasons. Welker caught 562 passes for 6,275 yards with 34 catches from Brady, while Gronkowski has 344 receptions for 4,961 yards with 60 touchdowns.

“It’s definitely an honor to be able to play with him,” Gronkowski said. “Being as such a high-caliber player he is, just taking me under his wing since my rookie year, helping me develop as a player along with the coaches, too. So it’s definitely an honor to come out, work hard every single week and step on that practice field and game field every single week.”

Gronkowski has 40 catches for 646 yards with seven touchdowns this season. He’s on pace for 91 receptions for 1,477 yards with 16 scores in what would be the best season of his NFL career.
