Rob Gronkowski couldn’t make it to the Medway High School pep rally Friday, but he still made an enormous impact.

It was an emotional rally for the high school after Maddie Lamson, who was the field hockey team’s goalie, died in a car accident last week. The school honored her and the team before its playoff game Friday night. And so did Gronkowski.

“Gordie Gronkowski, Gronk’s brother, actually tried to get him in here,” Medway athletic director Rob Pearl said, via the Boston Globe. “Gordie told Rob about the rally last night, but Rob couldn’t make it. So he sent me a video message last night. I couldn’t project it at the rally, but I was able to hold the phone up to the mic so the students could hear it.”
