The Kansas City Royals are the 2015 World Series champions.
The Royals defeated the New York Mets 7-2 on Sunday night, following a five-run top of the 12th inning in Game 5 of the Fall Classic at Citi Field.

The Mets led 2-0 heading into the top of the ninth, but manager Terry Collins didn’t remove adamant starter Matt Harvey, who had been dominant through eight shutout innings. It didn’t work out, though, as the Royals scored the tying runs.
Three innings later, Royals catcher Salvador Perez, who later was named World Series MVP, led off with a single and was lifted for pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson, who stole second during Alex Gordon’s at-bat. Dyson took third on the ensuing groundout, then scored the World Series-winning run on a base hit by Christian Colon, who was making his first plate appearance of the playoffs.
Alcides Escobar’s double scored Colon to extend the lead, and Lorenzo Cain’s bases-loaded, bases-clearing double all but ensured Kansas City’s first World Series championship since 1985.
