Saints, Giants Do Damage To NFL Record Book In 52-49 Shootout (Videos)

What a game that was.

If you’re a fan of offense and shootouts (and let’s be honest: who isn’t?), Sunday’s New York Giants-New Orleans Saints showdown at the Superdome was your paradise.

The teams combined for 101 points on 13 touchdowns. The 101 points was the third-highest total in NFL history, while the 13 touchdowns set a league record.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees also tied an NFL record with seven passing touchdowns. His 511 passing yards fell 43 short of tying the league’s single-game record.

Brees also set the NFL record for most career games with five or more touchdown passes with his 10th, breaking a tie with Peyton Manning.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw for 350 yards with six touchdowns, including three to Odell Beckham Jr, who nearly tied an NFL record, too.

Despite all the touchdowns, the game was decided by a field goal — the first attempted by either team in the game. Saints kicker Kai Forbath drilled a 50-yarder as time expired to give New Orleans a 52-49 walk-off win.
