WWE superstar Seth RollinsAn unscripted occurrence just threw a major wrench into the scripted world of professional wrestling.

World Wrestling Entertainment announced Thursday that WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury while performing at an event in Dublin, Ireland. He is expected to miss six to nine months and has been forced to vacate his title as a result.

WWE will crown a new champion at its next pay-per-view event, Survivor Series, which will take place Nov. 22, at Philips Arena in Atlanta. It will do so with a tournament.

So, who has the best chance to replace Rollins as WWE world heavyweight champion?

It’s almost impossible to figure that out right now, seeing as how WWE wasn’t planning on one of its most popular superstars going down with a torn right ACL, MCL and meniscus. We don’t even know at this point who’s going to be in the tournament, although Roman Reigns seems like a logical participant given that he was supposed to face Rollins in a match at Survivor Series.

Some names should draw heavy consideration based on their respective statuses within the company, and there’s no denying this new development could have long-term ramifications.
