Steven Gerrard probably will go once more unto the breach and then call it a career.

Gerrard said Tuesday on BT Sport the 2016 Major League Soccer season likely will be his final campaign as a professional soccer player. The 35-year-old former Liverpool captain didn’t completely rule out playing beyond next year, but he clearly is leaning toward retirement.

Gerrard also admitted to missing the Premier League and life at Liverpool, for which he played 17-plus seasons in the first team and made 710 appearances.

Gerrard joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in June on an 18-month contract. He already has ruled out a loan move to Liverpool, and he has no intention of playing against his hometown club.
