ARLINGTON, Texas — Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was knocked out of Thursday night’s 33-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers with an injury to the same shoulder that sidelined him for seven games this season.

Romo, who threw three interceptions and had two of them returned for touchdowns, didn’t get up after he was sacked by Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis on the final play of the third quarter.

Romo was favoring his left shoulder as he walked off the field, and the Cowboys said he was being evaluated for a left collarbone injury and wouldn’t return.

The Cowboys lost all seven games that Romo missed with a broken left collarbone before winning in his return at Miami last week. He already was having a rough game Thursday, going 11-of-21 passing with 106 yards and a 27.2 rating.

Romo was replaced by Matt Cassel, who started four games in his absence for Dallas.

UPDATE (10 p.m ET): ESPN’s Ed Werder had some bad news after the game.
