FOXBORO, Mass. — Bill Belichick was on the defensive when asked about a statement the New England Patriots and the Gronkowski family jointly released Tuesday.

The Patriots, usually quite tight-lipped on injuries, disclosed tight end Rob Gronkowski has a bone bruise and sprained right knee. They insisted there’s no timetable for Gronkowski’s return.

“Just trying to do everything we can to help you out,” Belichick said when asked by a reporter about the statement. “Sorry if you’re offended by that. Just trying to be cooperative and help you out. So, if that’s a problem, just let me know.”

Belichick wasn’t joking.

Belichick was mum when asked if the Patriots knew Gronkowski would release a video on Bleacher Report saying he is “week to week” with the injury.

“We did what we did,” Belichick said. “If you have any other questions, you really should take it up with our public relations department, which is very capably run by Stacey (James).”
