Bill Belichick Not Concerned About Winter Classic: ‘I Just Coach The Football Team’

Bill Belichick doesn’t care what goes on at Gillette Stadium while the New England Patriots aren’t there.

The Patriots head coach was asked Tuesday about the NHL Winter Classic at Gillette and if it posed any challenges because New England had to play its final two games on the road because of it. But Belichick isn’t at all concerned about hockey right now.

“Whenever the games are scheduled, that’s when we play them,” Belichick said, via conference call. “We’ve got eight at home, we’ve got eight away, just like any other team. Every time we have a long week, we have a short week. Every time we have a short week, we have a long week. I’m just trying to coach the football team. That’s my job. I don’t really worry about all the rest of it. Whatever it is we deal with.”

Belichick even got a little testy when asked if he had any say in Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s bid to host the Jan. 1 game between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, which means Sunday’s contest against the Miami Dolphins will be on the road.

“Look, I just coach the football team,” Belichick said. “That’s what I do. All the rest of it is not anything that’s pertinent to this conversation or any other one publicly.”

It sounds like Belichick is on to Sun Life Stadium.
