FOXBORO, Mass. — The Bruins made a roster move ahead of Friday’s NHL Winter Classic, recalling forward Alex Khokhlachev from the American Hockey League.

In a corresponding move, the team assigned defenseman Colin Miller to Providence. Miller was a healthy scratch for each of Boston’s last two games.

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced the transactions Thursday morning in a joint news conference with winger Brad Marchand, who on Wednesday was suspended three games for his low hit on Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki.

Marchand apologized for the play, which will sideline him for the Bruins’ New Year’s Day matchup with the Montreal Canadiens, saying he did not intend to hit Borowiecki.

The Bruins also will be without David Krejci for the NHL’s marquee regular-season event after the center was placed on injured reserve Monday with an upper body injury.

This is the third call-up of the season for Khokhlachev, who has yet to record a point in four games with the Bruins. The 22-year-old has been highly productive for the Baby B’s, though, tallying nine goals and 16 assists in 22 AHL games this season.

Khokhlachev joined the Bruins for practice Thursday at Gillette Stadium.
