Chris Young officially is a member of the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox announced Wednesday that they’ve agreed to a two-year contract with Young, who spent the 2015 season with the New York Yankees before becoming a free agent. Terms of the contract weren’t disclosed, but reports indicate it’s worth $13 million ($6.5 million salary for both 2016 and 2017).
Right-handed pitcher Roman Mendez was designated for assignment to make room for Young on the 40-man roster.
Young, an All-Star with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010, hit .252 with 14 home runs, 42 RBIs and a .773 OPS in 356 plate appearances over 140 games for the Yankees last season. The right-handed-hitting outfielder hit  .327 with seven homers, 24 RBIs and a .972 OPS in 175 plate appearances versus southpaws.
Young has appeared in 21 games at Fenway Park over the course of his 10-year career. The 32-year-old has hit .344 (21-for-61) with three homers, eight doubles and a 1.054 OPS in those contests.
