If you’re sick of Chip Kelly, sit tight.
Kelly has been scrutinized throughout Philadelphia’s disappointing season and Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter doesn’t think the Eagles head coach will be in the NFL much longer.
“Players don’t like him,” Carter said Tuesday on ESPN’s “Mike and Mike,” according to USA TODAY Sports’ For the Win. “They can’t say anything. They do not like Chip Kelly. They don’t like playing in his system.
“Ultimately, the players are going to win out. When you can’t get players to come there. I kind of feel not this year, but next year, Chip Kelly is going to be back in college football.”
Kelly had plenty of success as a college coach, especially during his four seasons at Oregon from 2009 through 2012. He then guided the Eagles to a 10-6 record in each of his first two seasons at the NFL level before hitting a major bump in the road this season.
Philadelphia was eliminated from playoff contention Saturday after a 38-24 loss to the Washington Redskins. The Eagles enter their Week 17 game against the New York Giants with a 6-9 record, and perhaps most importantly, Kelly’s personnel moves have played a huge role in Philadelphia’s demise.
“The NFL is getting ready to do what it does to most college coaches,” Carter said, per USA TODAY. “They’re chewing him up right now and eventually right back into college football.”
Have the Eagles lost faith in Kelly, who was expected to install a fast-paced offense en route to NFL success? Only time will tell. But right now, things are trending in the wrong direction in the City of Brotherly Love.
And that doesn’t bode well for Kelly, especially if you share Carter’s opinion.
