It appears the Boston Bruins will be without one of their best forwards for an extended period of time.

The team announced Monday that center David Krejci is week to week with an upper body injury he suffered in Sunday night’s loss to the Ottawa Senators. Defenseman Tory Krug also will miss some time, though he’s considered day to day with an undisclosed injury.

Krejci’s absence certainly will be hard to fill, as the Czech Republic native’s 33 points in 35 games are tied with Patrice Bergeron for the most on the Bruins. However, Boston has faith in Ryan Spooner, who will slot into Krejci’s role.

“When that happens, you just get together as a group and you just say it’s a challenge, and you have to accept it,” Spooner said, per the Bruins’ Twitter account. “I’m excited for the challenge. For me, I just need to be confident in myself, just use my skill and my speed at the same time.”

Still, the team knows you can’t expect one person to replace Krejci and that everyone will have to step up.

“There’s only one David Krejci, and nobody’s asking anybody else to copy him,” captain Zdeno Chara said, per the Bruins. “We’ve just got to focus on what we can do as a team.”
