MLB: ALDS-Texas Rangers at Toronto Blue JaysDavid Price reportedly agreed to a seven-year, $217 million contract with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. The deal not only would be the richest ever awarded to a pitcher in baseball history, but also the $31 million average annual value (AAV) would tie Miguel Cabrera for the most expensive contract for any player.

If the numbers are accurate, Price immediately leapfrogs several players into the top 10 lists for both AAV and total value of MLB contracts.

Given the current affluent state of baseball, it’s no surprise that of the 10 richest contracts, eight have been signed since 2012 and none were less than $200 million.

And to think the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees for just $125,000.
