Emre Can is happy to have Daniel Sturridge on the receiving end of his finest passes, as we otherwise might overlook them.

Can assisted on the second of two goals Sturridge scored for Liverpool against Southampton on Wednesday with one of the best passesĀ of the season. Using the outside of his foot, Can curled his delivery into the penalty area in the 29th minute. Sturridge gratefully received Can’s pass and slotted his shot under goalkeeper Martin Stekelenburg.

Can, 21, is thriving as a midfielder under manager Jurgen Klopp. Can played mostly as a defender in 2014-15, his first season with Liverpool, but Klopp has pushed him forward into his preferred role. The move appears to be paying off, as Can is expressing himself and helping lift Liverpool to new heights.

The oft-injured Sturridge is performing like a star in his first start since Oct. 4. The goal he scored from Can’s pass came just four minutes after he tied the score with his first goal since Sept. 26.

Liverpool went on to rout Southampton 6-1 in their Capital One Cup (Football League Cup) quarterfinal.
