FIFA Arrests Among Top Five Soccer Moments Of 2015 (Videos, Photos)

No such thing as an “ordinary” year exists in soccer. Nevertheless, 2015 was one for the ages by the sport’s extraordinary standards.

The 2015 season was a year of change, as Barcelona and the United States Women’s national soccer team reclaimed their thrones — largely thanks to superstars Lionel Messi and Carli Lloyd, respectively, and their illustrious supporting casts.

Off the field, law enforcement officials in the United States began dismantling FIFA’s power structure. Soon-to-be former president Sepp Blatter and many of his sidekicks have been removed from positions they used for many things other than the benefit of the sport.

While the year’s top soccer moments include highs and lows, few are likely to forget many shifts and future trends gathered steam in 2015.
