Gilbert Arenas Has Misogynistic Solution To Boost WNBA Viewership

Gilbert Arenas isn’t exactly known for his good judgement, but the former NBA point guard took it to a new level Wednesday.

The now-retired Arenas proposed an idea on Instagram about how he thinks the WNBA can boost its viewership and ticket sales, and it’s beyond sexist. The longtime Washington Wizard posted a video of women playing basketball in thongs, and included this caption:

NOW this is what america was hoping for when they announced the #WNBA back in 1996… not a bunch of chicks running around looking like, cast members from #orangeisthenewblack…dont get me wrong, they have few #cutiepies but theres a whole alotta #beanpies running around hahahahahaha if #skylardiggins came out like this,I dont care if she missed every layup..imma buy season tickets and I dont even know where the (expletive) #tulsa is hahahaha #2016newwnbaoutfitPLS and if u think this is sexist,9 times out of 10 u the ugly one and we didnt pay to come see u play anyway #donkeykong …smdh #thiswillbeawesome #soldouteverywhere

Arenas’ rant obviously drew ire from people all over the Internet, so he felt the need to go back to Instagram and double down on what he said.

The second rant contains a lot of inappropriate language, but basically he said his idea was valid because 80 percent of sports viewers are men (not true), some sports like track and field, volleyball and UFC have minimal uniforms (for mobility) and he also pointed to the Legends Football League (formerly the Lingerie Football League), although that’s probably not the best example to prove his point, as the LFL is having trouble staying afloat partly because of the uniforms.

Arenas went on to say men are entitled to seeing more of women’s bodies on the court, “but for some odd reason were not getting it..what were getting is #tats #dreads #highsocks #baggyshorts #elbowpads..sounds like MEN attire tobme.” And if that statement wasn’t bad enough, he brought the LGBT community back into the discussion again and continued to denigrate women as nothing more than sex objects.

“I dont care if u dont like the truth becuz MEN DON’T WANNA WATCH WOMEN ACT LIKE MEN…. ,” Arenas’ post said. “if they came out with an all #gay man sport..I bet they will wear less clothes then the #WNBA and thats a #FACT lol NOW GIVE US WHAT WE WANT and unveil them bodies…”

New York Liberty star and New York Knicks analyst Swin Cash spoke out against Arenas on Twitter.
