New England Patriots linebacker Jonathan Freeny managed to avoid serious injury Sunday night.
Freeny was knocked out of the Patriots’ 27-6 win over the Houston Texans with a hand injury, but his X-rays came back negative, a source told NESN.com. Freeny wore a cast on his right hand in the Patriots’ locker room following the win, but he didn’t break his hand.
Freeny has played in all 13 games for the Patriots and started in seven in Dont’a Hightower’s and Jamie Collins’ absence. Freeny has 50 tackles, one sack, one pass breakup and one forced fumble this season.
Veteran linebacker Jerod Mayo took on an increased role in Freeny’s absence against the Texans.
Safety Devin McCourty (ankle) and defensive tackle Dominique Easley (thigh) also suffered injuries that are considered minor.
