Patriots Practice Report: Eric Martin’s Absence Could Signal Roster Move

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots could be getting ready to make another roster move Thursday.

Linebacker Eric Martin was absent for Thursday’s practice. Martin, who doesn’t have a known injury, has been moved on and off the 53-man roster multiple times this season, so his absence could signify another transaction.

Safety Devin McCourty (ankle) and linebacker Jonathan Freeny (hand) also were absent. McCourty and Freeny missed practice Wednesday, as well.

Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson and offensive lineman LaAdrian Waddle were claimed off waivers Thursday, and both participated in practice.

The Patriots brought veteran free-agent running back Steven Jackson to Gillette Stadium on Thursday. ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports Jackson will work out with the team Thursday. If Martin was cut, that creates an open spot on their 53-man roster.
