FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots had two open spots on their practice squad going into Wednesday. At least one of those has been filled.
Defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles said he signed to the Patriots’ practice squad Wednesday. Quarles was released from the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad Sept. 22.
Quarles was claimed by the Patriots off waivers from the New York Giants at the beginning of the 2014 season. He was waived and signed to the Patriots’ practice squad Sept. 8, 2014, before being signed by the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 16, 2014. The Colts cut current Patriots running back Dion Lewis to make room for Quarles.
Quarles, 23, went undrafted out of South Carolina last May. The 6-foot-4, 294-pound defensive lineman has one career sack in two NFL games.
Chris Harper, or a similar looking wide receiver wearing No. 14, was practicing with the Patriots Wednesday. Harper was cut from the Patriots’ 53-man roster Monday and is likely back on the practice squad.
Practice-squad cornerback Chris Greenwood wasn’t at practice. If Harper was signed and Greenwood was cut, the Patriots still have an open spot on their practice squad.
