The New England Patriots must have been impressed with Steven Jackson in his season debut.

The Patriots waived running back/fullback Joey Iosefa on Monday, the team announced. Iosefa had only one carry for no gain in the Patriots’ 26-20 loss to the New York Jets the previous day, while Jackson carried the ball seven times for 15 yards.

Iosefa originally was signed to the active roster from the Patriots’ practice squad before Week 15, then he had 14 carries for 51 yards in the team’s 33-16 win over the Tennessee Titans.

The Patriots are left with Jackson, Brandon Bolden and James White on their active roster at running back.

Tight end Asante Cleveland, who was waived by the Patriots on Friday, was claimed by the San Diego Chargers, according to the NFL transaction wire. The Patriots hoped to re-sign Cleveland to their practice squad.

Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson, who was waived by the Patriots on Saturday, was claimed by the Buffalo Bills, according to the league transaction wire. The Patriots reportedly were hoping to re-sign Hankerson to their 53-man roster if he cleared waivers.

The Patriots now have one available space on their 53-man roster and two open spots on their practice squad.
