Report: Julian Edelman Could Return For Patriots In Week 17 Vs. Dolphins

It might not be much longer before Tom Brady gets his favorite weapon back.

Julian Edelman hasn’t been on the field since fracturing his foot against the New York Giants on Nov. 15, but the New England Patriots wide receiver could return to the field just in time for the playoffs. Edelman has been practicing — he’s not expected to play against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday — and NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the wideout could be back for the last week of the season.

“Now the thought is that Edelman should be on the field for Week 17 for the Patriots assuming there is anything to play for, which is big because 1) rehab is going well; but 2) it will get him acclimated to be really ready to go when the postseason starts,” Rapoport said Sunday on NFL Network’s “GameDay First.”

Of course, the Week 17 matchup against the Miami Dolphins might not carry any weight for the Patriots, as they’ve already clinched the AFC East. But the AFC race among the Pats, the Denver Broncos and the Cincinnati Bengals still is tight, and the results on Jan. 3 still could have an effect on the No. 1 seed in the conference.

Either way, having reassurance that Edelman should be back for January football certainly is a relief for New England.
