The New England Patriots reportedly should have their star safety back for the playoffs.
Starting free safety Devin McCourty suffered a sprained ankle during the Patriots’ 27-6 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday night, a source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. McCourty’s X-rays came back negative, and the injury is “nothing that’ll cause him to miss the playoffs,” according to Rapoport.
There’s concern McCourty might have suffered a high ankle sprain, a team source told the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe.
Duron Harmon filled in for McCourty at free safety after the injury. Harmon has played 464 snaps this season as the Patriots’ pass-specialist safety.
Defensive tackle Dominique Easley suffered a thigh injury Sunday night. It’s “nothing serious,” The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin is hearing.
Running back LeGarrette Blount (hip) and linebacker Jonathan Freeny (hand) also suffered injuries in the win.
