UPDATE (4:23 p.m. ET): The Boston Bruins announced Tuesday afternoon that they have placed center David Krejci on injured reserve with an upper body injury and recalled forward Seth Griffith from the American Hockey League.
Griffith, who has not appeared in an NHL game this season, will be available for Tuesday night’s matchup with the Ottawa Senators.
ORIGINAL STORY: BOSTON — Seth Griffith made the trip from Providence to Boston on Tuesday morning and could make his NHL season debut as the Bruins host the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden.
Bruins coach Claude Julien confirmed Griffith had joined the team in Boston, but as of noon Tuesday, the forward had yet to be officially recalled.
“We’ve got a lot of different things going on roster-wise,” Julien said Tuesday morning. “There’s a lot of different things that can happen, so I can’t answer any of those questions. I’m not hiding anything. … There will be roster decisions made later (Tuesday).
“You guys probably saw Griffith. He’s here available to us, but we haven’t made a roster decision on him.”
Griffith’s potential promotion from the American Hockey League comes two days after the Bruins lost co-leading scorer David Krejci to an upper body injury during a 3-1 loss to the Senators. Julien on Monday deemed Krejci “week to week.”
Griffith, who missed the beginning of the season after suffering a knee injury in Boston’s preseason opener, entered Tuesday as the Providence Bruins’ leader in goals (10), assists (17) and points. The 22-year-old saw substantial action at the NHL level as a rookie last season, tallying six goals and four assists in 30 games for the Bruins.
“I haven’t seen him play (this season),” Julien said. “I think he’s just finding his game. He was out for, obviously, a while, so he had to go (to Providence) and find his game. And I think he’s much better as of late. He’s starting to be the Griff that we know.
“They brought him here in case we’re in need of him, and we’ll see where we go from there.”
While Julien did not reveal his lineup for Tuesday night, Ryan Spooner is expected to take Krejci’s spot as Boston’s second-line center. Landon Ferraro likely will fill Spooner’s usual role on the third line.
Defenseman Torey Krug skated Tuesday morning after missing Sunday’s game with an undisclosed injury, but his status for Tuesday night remains unclear.
