The New England Patriots have lost two consecutive games, which doesn’t happen very often.
That sort of skid is normal for a lot of teams, but for the Patriots, it can be the source of concern for some fans. However, New England’s loss Sunday to Philadelphia, as ugly as it looked at times, was only the Patriots’ second loss of the season. They’re still 10-2 and very much alive in the hunt for the AFC’s top seed in the playoffs.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady emphasized Sunday that the Patriots do need to play better. He said the same Monday morning on WEEI’s “The Dennis and Callahan Morning Show,” but the Patriots QB also tried to inject some perspective.
“We’re going to have to play, certainly, a hell of a lot better (next Sunday in Houston) than we played (Sunday versus Philadelphia,” Brady said in his weekly radio interview Monday morning. “That’s what we’ve got to focus on. You know, 10-2 is obviously not terrible. It’s not where we would have liked to have been two weeks ago. But our whole season is ahead of us. We’ve just got to make some corrections and understand the issues that we’re facing and try to do a lot better and go out there and play a lot better than we’ve played the last couple of weeks.”
The current NFL playoff picture has the Patriots lined up for a wild card game against the New York Jets, but the Patriots can get up to at least the No. 2 spot and get a first-round bye if they win out, as Cincinnati and Denver still have to play each other. But in order for the Patriots to win out, Sunday’s game was proof there are things that need fixing.
“And then you end up having kind of a day where you’re not in the best rhythm or flow or whatever you want to call it, and we just aren’t playing the kind of winning football that it takes to win,” he told WEEI. “I always say every week, it’s hard to win a game. It’s certainly hard to win a game when we play the way we played yesterday. Just too many critical errors. That’s how you get beat.”
