BOSTON — The Bruins were forced to play the majority of Saturday night’s game against the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden with just five defensemen.
Torey Krug left with 7:46 remaining in the first period because of an undisclosed injury. The young D-man was engaged in a puck race with Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons in the Bruins’ zone and pulled up lame before reaching the end boards. There didn’t appear to be any contact on the play.
Krug skated toward the bench and motioned that he needed to come off. He was officially ruled out by the Bruins a little while after that.
Losing an offensively skilled player such as Krug for any amount of time would be a tough loss for the B’s. He ranks second in scoring among Bruins defensemen with 17 points (three goals, 14 assists), and his playmaking ability on the power play is quite important to the first unit.
