Ken Griffey Jr.’s trademark look might be going with him to Cooperstown.
Griffey and Mike Piazza were announced Wednesday as the two latest elections into the Baseball Hall of Fame. For many baseball fans of the 1990s, that meant a chance to look back at two of the more popular players of the era, especially in regards to Griffey.
News outlets and publications showed countless images Wednesday of Griffey from his playing career, and many of them featured Griffey as we see him in our mind’s eye: with a big smile and his cap turned around backwards. Somewhat surprisingly, the Hall of Fame isn’t ruling out the idea of Griffey being featured wearing a backwards cap for his plaque in Cooperstown.
MLB.com even did a mock-up of what a backwards hat-wearing Griffey plaque might look like.
Whether Griffey himself actually wants to do that is yet to be seen.
