The Boston Bruins recalled exciting young forward David Pastrnak was recalled from the AHL’s Providence Bruins on Thursday, while veteran defenseman Adam McQuaid was placed on injured reserve with an upper body injury.

Pastrnak has not played for the Bruins since Halloween. He suffered a foot injury and has missed Boston’s last 28 games. The second-year forward has tallied four points in 10 NHL games this season.

McQuaid left Tuesday’s game against the Washington Capitals after taking a hard hit from behind along the boards. Capitals forward Zach Sill was suspended two games for the hit. McQuaid had played in all 37 of Boston’s games entering Bruins-Capitals.

The Bruins begin a five-game road trip Friday night against the New Jersey Devils.
