Depending on your view of Cam Newton, this either helps or hurts his MVP case.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback seemed to confuse the heck out of his teammates Sunday with a wacky audible. Newton was heard yelling “even janitor” at the line of scrimmage when a baffled lineman asked, “Is that real?”
If you’re against Newton, you’ll probably point out that he can’t even communicate with his own teammates. If you support him, you’ll likely argue he’s a vocal leader on the verge of landing an MVP award after leading his team to a 15-1 regular-season record.
Yet the real question is this: What kind of audible is “even janitor,” anyway?
Is that what the Panthers call when they’re mopping up opponents, as Carolina did to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in its 38-10 win in Week 17?
Whatever it means, it’s still not as good as Tom Brady shouting “Rex Ryan” at the line of scrimmage earlier this season against the Buffalo Bills.
