Montreal Canadiens fans gave one of their own the Zdeno Chara treatment Tuesday night.
Canadiens All-Star defenseman P.K. Subban was booed in his own arena after two crucial errors led directly to goals in Montreal’s second consecutive 5-2 loss to the last-place Columbus Blue Jackets.
“I won’t say it doesn’t bother me, but I understand it,” Subban told reporters at the Bell Centre, via the Montreal Gazette. “Our fans are passionate and I deserved to be booed. I gave them two goals and if I don’t make those mistakes, it’s a 2-2 game. If I were in the stands, I’d be booing me.”
Though the boos were a response to Subban’s sloppy puck control, he also was involved in a scary incident during the second period. A slap shot of his struck teammate Max Pacioretty in the face, forcing the Canadiens captain to leave the game.
Montreal coach Michel Therrien didn’t reveal the exact nature of Pacioretty’s injury, but he told reporters it was not serious.
“I was told he’s going to be OK,” Therrien said, via NHL.com.
The Canadiens, who aren’t expected to have starting goalie Carey Price back for at least another few weeks, have been almost unbelievably bad since the beginning of December, going 5-17-1 over their last 23 games and scoring two or fewer goals in 21 of their last 26.
