Cris Carter wondered aloud Friday whether New England Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones’ situation might be worse than already speculated.
Jones went to the hospital last Sunday morning reportedly due to a bad reaction to synthetic marijuana. Details of the incident released by the Foxboro Police Department on Thursday also painted a rather bizarre picture.
Carter, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and current ESPN analyst, opined Friday on “Mike and Mike” that Jones actually was smoking marijuana laced with PCP.

Carter continued:
“Now, he could have been smoking synthetic, but it’s a better story — it’s a better story to tell: ‘That’s the reason I’m here.’ So when he got to the police station, why was he smelling like marijuana? Because synthetic doesn’t smell like marijuana,” he explained, via Pro Football Talk. “So for me, I don’t know all the details of the case, but I’m just a little — uh, the synthetic, that’s a better way to put it.”
Strong take, although “I don’t know all the details of the case” seems to sum it up pretty well. At least Carter never mentioned a “fall guy” this time, which is progress, we suppose.
