It’s fairly safe to assume DeSean Jackson didn’t shed any tears over Chip Kelly’s firing in Philadelphia.
Jackson is now with the Washington Redskins, though the sometimes outspoken wide receiver was in Philly for Kelly’s first season as head coach. Jackson, like former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, apparently wasn’t a fan of Kelly’s during their time together.
“I’m a firm believer that bad karma comes back on you,” Jackson told TheMMQB.com in an interview published Friday.
The end of Jackson’s time with the Eagles wasn’t pretty. According to one report, Jackson was cut at least in part because of alleged gang ties. However, more reports surfaced shortly after he was released in March of 2014, claiming Jackson was “blatantly insubordinate” during the 2013 season and would cuss out Kelly in front of the team.
Jackson, however, claimed after being cut the Eagles ran against a “smear campaign” against him, which might help explain his recent comments.
“When you ruin a team like that, you do things to peoples’ families, you release people, you trade people, you get rid of good players who build something with the community, with the fans, with the kids — to have a guy come in and change up the team like that, I just believe in karma,” Jackson continued in his MMQB interview.
“I don’t have any bad words to say about him as far as what he feels he needs on his roster. But the guys that were on that roster created something special, from Jeremy Maclin to LeSean McCoy to Trent Cole to Todd Herremans and myself and Brandon Boykin; it goes on and on and on. When we were there, we were a brotherhood. So for everyone to go their separate ways and to see how it all ended up, it’s a very sad thing.”
Jackson certainly appears to be in a better place now. He and the Redskins will host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at FedExField in an NFC wild-card round matchup. Coincidentally, it was Jackson and Washington who defeated Kelly’s Eagles in a game that eliminated Philly from playoff contention. Kelly was fired three days later.
