Jay Cutler, Kristin Cavallari’s Couples Therapy Led To Career Season

Everyone presumed the arrival of offensive guru Adam Gase to the Chicago Bears offense was the biggest reason for quarterback Jay Cutler’s revival.

According to Cutler, though, taking care of some off-field issues with his wife, former reality star Kristin Cavallari, was the best medicine for his passing ailments.

“We have somebody on staff here. Kristin and I have done couples therapy also,” Cutler admitted. “I’ve never met with a quarterback guy or any (mental coach) in that regard. But just couples therapy and meeting with Gloria (Balague), who’s our in-house sports psychologist, you start getting insight on some things. You start seeing things differently. That definitely has helped me deal with stuff.”

Cutler had one of the best seasons of his career, posting his best quarterback rating (92.3) in his 10 NFL seasons and fewest number of interceptions (11) ever. He did so without the services of trusted receiver Brandon Marshall, who was traded to the New York Jets in the offseason, and safety blankets Alshon Jeffrey, tight end Martellus Bennett and running back Matt Forte, who all were injured for large chunks of the season.

“I’m not surprised,” he added. “You look at your 2006 self when (I) came into the league and it’s a drastic change. But if you’re not trying to get better in certain aspects of your life, you’re just going to stay the same. I think we can all improve. Things at home, things in your life away from work, if they’re not in order, it’s definitely going to affect your professional business.”
