NHL linesmen don’t have an easy job.
One of their tasks is to break up fights and scrums between players who often are much bigger and stronger than them.
Linesman Jay Sharrers tried to break up a scrum during Wednesday night’s game between the Los Angeles Kings and Colorado Avalanche and caught an accidental punch in the face from L.A. forward Milan Lucic.
Lucic clearly was aiming for one of the Avalanche players, but he missed. He was seen apologizing for the punch immediately after it happened and was not penalized.
In Calgary, Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman cross-checked a linesman into the boards from behind. It was a rough night for NHL linesmen.
