Kyle Schwarber’s famous home run ball has been removed.
Schwarber crushed a mammoth homer for the Chicago Cubs in Game 4 of the 2015 NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. The ball landed atop the right field video board, where it was later placed under Plexiglas for the remainder of Chicago’s playoff run, which ended with the Cubs losing to the New York Mets in four games in the NLCS.
Cubs spokesman Julian Green said Tuesday the ball no longer is atop the video board and was removed sometime after the season, according to the Chicago Tribune. Green wouldn’t reveal the ball’s new location “for security reasons” but confirmed it’s in a “safe, secure place.”
It’s unclear if the Cubs will commemorate Schwarber’s home run — Green said there currently is no marker atop the video board — but the moon shot won’t be forgotten anytime soon, especially since the 22-year-old figures to be an impact player in Chicago for the foreseeable future.
