Marko Grujic’s excitement over joining Liverpool has caused him to break the story of which he’s the star.
Grujic on Saturday used Facebook to announce his impending transfer to Liverpool.
“On 4th January I will become a Liverpool player,” Grujic said.
Grujic has since deleted the post, but a Twitter user captured it in a screen-shot.
Grujic, 19, will officially sign with Liverpool this week from Serbian club Red Star Belgrade in a transfer worth a reported £5.1 million ($7.5 million). He flew to Liverpool on Monday for his physical examination, according to The Press Association.
Liverpool will loan Grujic back to Red Star for the remainder of the season, and he’ll join the Reds next summer ahead of his maiden campaign in English soccer.
The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe and The Liverpool Echo’s Kristian Walsh reported Monday that Russian clubs Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA Moscow tried to lure Grujic their way by outbidding Liverpool late in the transfer process, but the talented midfielder already had decided his next move. Grujic has agreed to a five-year contract, which he’ll sign in the coming hours or days.
Once Grujic puts pen to paper, Liverpool will confirm him as the first signing of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as manager.
