Jordy Nelson apparently went through a bit of a rough patch in seventh grade.

The Green Bay Packers wide receiver grew up just down the road from his wife, Emily, in rural Kansas, and they started dating in the seventh grade. But that relationship didn’t last through the summer, as Nelson explained Wedensday during a radio interview with Dan Le Batard.

Nelson: I have known my wife my whole life. We grew up together, went to kindergarden together all the way through and, yeah, her parents, we grew up 3 miles apart which is not very far apart when you grew up out in the country in Kansas.

Le Batard: When did you become boyfriend and girlfriend?

Nelson: That would be end of freshman year of high school.

Le Batard: OK. I was under the impression she was your very first girlfriend, sixth grade.

Nelson: Where are you getting this information? … Well, yeah, we dated and she dumped me. Why I went back I don’t know. I guess it’s part of the story.

Le Batard: Were you trying to lie to us, Nelson??? She dumped you where — give us the details of when and where.

Nelson: It was actually seventh grade. At the end of the school year, she had an incredible reason why, it was the end of the school year and summertime and apparently she didn’t want to be around me. She didn’t want to be tied down to one guy in seventh grade in the summer.

Hilarious. Obviously, the two ended up getting back together, though, and the rest is history.
