So … this was awkward.
NBC Sports NHL rinkside reporter Pierre McGuire has an encylopedic knowledge when it comes to hockey players and coaches. Like, almost to the point where it’s annoying. Many have bemoaned McGuire is rattling off where a team’s fourth-line left winger played his peewee hockey.
So it’s kind of a surprise to see McGuire make the sort of blunder he made Wednesday night in Detroit. The plan was for McGuire to interview Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill for a stock in-game interview. The problem, you see, is McGuire ended up mistakenly going to interview assistant coach Pat Ferschweiler, who, if we’re being honest, does kind of look like Blashill. In fact, all three of them kind of look alike.
But that didn’t make the exchange any less awkward.
