The New York Giants didn’t have to look far for their next head coach.
The Giants hired offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo to fill the team’s head coaching vacancy, a source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
The news came shortly after ESPN’s Dan Graziano and The New York Daily News’ Ralph Vacchiano reported that McAdoo and the Giants were “closing in on a deal.”
The 38-year-old already has 12 years of experience coaching in the NFL. He was an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints in 2004 when he was just 28 years old. He was on the San Francisco 49ers’ coaching staff in 2005 before joining the Green Bay Packers as their tight ends coach for six seasons. He spent two more seasons in Green Bay as the quarterbacks coach before joining the New York Giants as their offensive coordinator in 2014.
Steve Spagnuolo will stay as the team’s defensive coordinator, sources told FOX Sports’ Mike Garafolo. Former Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin also could join New York’s coaching staff, according to Garafolo.
McAdoo will take over for Tom Coughlin, who stepped down as head coach after the season.
