Report: Josh McDaniels Won’t Interview For Head Coaching Jobs This Weekend

Josh McDaniels, for now, is focused on the future of the New England Patriots, not his potential future as a head coach.

The Patriots offensive coordinator is one of the top head coaching candidates around, but McDaniels won’t interview for any of the multiple head coach openings this weekend, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday, despite plenty of interest. McDaniels instead will spend his time preparing for the Patriots’ AFC divisional round game on Jan. 16.

One team reportedly interested in both McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is the Miami Dolphins, who reportedly requested to interview both of New England’s coordinators for their head coach opening.

McDaniels has been a head coach in the NFL before. The 39-year-old started his career with the Patriots and eventually ascended to offensive coordinator. He left the Patriots in 2009 to take the Denver Broncos’ head coaching job before eventually returning to the Patriots in 2012 and assuming the same coordinator role. McDaniels also spent time with the St. Louis Rams as their OC in 2011.
