Rex Ryan’s time in Buffalo might be short-lived, if he doesn’t get his act together.
Ryan’s first season with the Bills ultimately was unsuccessful, with Buffalo finishing 8-8 and missing the playoffs. The message moving forward from the top reportedly is clear: Win or get out. Bills owner Terry Pegula, in a meeting toward the end of the season, issued both Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley an ultimatum, The Buffalo News reported Tuesday. If Ryan and Whaley don’t turn things around in 2016, a team source told the newspaper, they would be fired.
Whaley reportedly has a year left on his contract, and while the ultimatum reportedly was given, the Bills also are working on an extension for the GM. Ryan has four years left on his contract after signing a five-year deal worth $5.5 million per season.
A source also told The Buffalo News that there could be changes to Ryan’s staff entering the 2016 season. The paper reported as many as three changes could be made.
