Hue Jackson is on the move, but he’s staying in Ohio.
Jackson has agreed to become the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday. Jackson all but confirmed the news, telling Michael Silver “they made me feel comfortable.”
Jackson had been in the Cincinnati Bengals’ organization since 2012, spending the last two seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator.
This is Jackson’s second head coaching stint. The Oakland Raiders hired him after the 2011 season, and the team went 8-8 in his first season after starting the year 7-4. Oakland hired Reggie McKenzie as general manager after the season, and one of his first moves was to fire Jackson.
Jackson will be the Browns’ fourth head coach since the start of the 2009 season. Mike Pettine went 10-22 and was fired following the end of the 2015 season after a 3-13 season. The Browns have reached the playoffs just once since re-entering the league in 1999. They’ve finished with a winning record just twice in that span, losing at least 10 games 13 times.
