J.J. Watt will spend his offseason recovering now that the Houston Texans have been knocked out of the NFL playoffs.
The Texans defensive end exited Saturday’s AFC Wild Card Game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs early after aggravating a groin injury. And the team announced Sunday that Watt will have surgery Tuesday to repair it.
Texans head coach Bill O’Brien didn’t go into any detail other than calling it a “significant groin injury,” but Watt told reporters he’d been dealing with it for six or seven weeks. ESPN’s Ed Werder added Sunday that Watt was in enough pain that the team had to drive him from NRG Stadium to his car after the game.
Watt played on 96 percent of the Texans’ snaps in the regular season, amassing 17.5 sacks and 76 tackles.
