Tom Brady broke another NFL record just by stepping on the field Sunday.
The New England Patriots quarterback’s appearance in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos was his 31st playoff game, breaking the NFL’s all-time record for most postseason games previously held by his former teammate, kicker Adam Vinatieri.
It’s a pretty remarkable achievement for Brady, who entered Sunday’s game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High with an incredible 22-8 postseason record that has included four Super Bowl victories. Vinatieri, of course, was an instrumental part of three of them, booting the game-winning field goal in New England’s Super Bowl XXXVI win over the St. Louis Rams.
Vinatieri played in 17 playoff games in seven seasons with the Patriots and 13 playoff games in seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
Brady passed Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice (29 playoff appearances) on the all-time list last week by helping the Patriots down the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round. Brady’s adversary, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, made his 26th playoff appearance Sunday.
