Everton and Manchester City look to draw first blood in their battle for a trip to Wembley Stadium.
Manchester City visits Everton on Wednesday at Goodison Park in the first leg of their two-game Capital One Cup (Football League Cup) semifinal series. Manchester City is trying to reclaim the trophy it won in 2014, while Everton is chasing its first-ever triumph in the competition.
Everton has won just three of its last 13 games in the Premier League. Everton trails Manchester City by 12 points in the standings, but Wednesday’s contest gives the Toffees a chance to earn a famous victory that could spark an uptick in overall form.
Strikers will be in the spotlight when the teams meet. Everton’s Romelu Lukaku has been red-hot lately, having scored seven goals and assisted on three more in his last six home games in the Premier League. Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is capable of scoring against the stiffest defenses — something Everton doesn’t have at this moment in time.
