BOSTON — Boston University begins its Beanpot title defense Tuesday night at TD Garden with a semifinal matchup against Northeastern.

These teams met in the final last season, where the Terriers defeated the Huskies 4-3 in overtime thanks to a goal from captain and Boston Bruins draft pick Matt Grzelcyk. Northeastern hasn’t won the Beanpot since 1988, which is the longest drought of the four teams.

The winner of this game will play Boston College in the final on Monday, Feb. 8. The Eagles defeated Harvard 3-2 in the first semifinal Monday.

FINAL, BU wins 3-1

The Terriers will play rival Boston College in the 2016 Beanpot final.

Third Period, 19:20, 3-1 BU: Terriers defenseman Doyle Somerby scores an empty-net goal to secure the victory for BU.

Third Period, 16:48, 2-1 BU: We’re in for a fantastic finish! Northeastern has trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with a rebound goal from forward John Stevens at the top of the crease.

Third Period, 15:51, 2-0 BU: The Terriers have an attacking zone faceoff with 4:09 remaining in regulation.

Third Period, 11:20, 2-0 BU: Maguire makes a left-pad save on a wraparound attempt.

Third Period, 10:58, 2-0 BU: BU nearly put this game out of reach with another goal. It appeared that Ruck had the puck covered in his crease, but the Terriers kept jamming and the referee eventually signaled a goal.

Replays showed the puck never even crossed the goal line. The goal was reviewed and the good-goal call was reversed.

Third Period, 10:27, 2-0 BU: Northeastern is still attacking, but it hasn’t found a way to beat Maguire, who’s up to 20 saves.

Third Period, 5:07, 2-0 BU: Maguire makes three straight saves from in close to keep the Huskies scoreless. He’s played very well tonight, and he’ll need to maintain it because Northeastern, as expected, is making a strong push.

Third Period, 0:01, 2-0 BU: Play has resumed!

Second Intermission, 2-0 BU

Second Period, 17:14, 2-0 BU: Ruck just made a fantastic glove save moving right to left to rob BU forward Matt Lane of an open net.

Second Period, 14:55, 2-0 BU: Northeastern is starting to spend more time in the attacking zone, but Maguire has made a few really good saves to keep the Huskies off the scoreboard.

However, the Huskies have just taken another penalty, which should halt their momentum for the next two minutes. Northeastern forward Adam Gaudette was penalized for hooking.

Second Period, 11:52, 2-0 BU: The Terriers have a 16-10 edge (8-4 this period) in shots on goal.

Second Period, 7:15, 2-0 BU: The Huskies successfully killed the penalty.

Second Period, 5:15, 2-0 BU: Northeastern defenseman Matt Benning is sent to the penalty box for holding. BU will get its first power play of the game.

Second Period, 2:56, 2-0 BU: Greenway exited the box and BU found him with a pass from behind its own goal line, giving the freshman forward a breakaway scoring attempt. But he was denied by Ruck to keep Northeastern’s deficit 2-0.

Second Period, 0:56, 2-0 BU: Terriers forward Jordan Greenway is penalized for holding and Northeastern will go on the power play for the first time tonight.

Second Period, 0:01, 2-0 BU: Play has resumed!

First Intermission, BU 2-0

First Period, 18:12, 2-0 BU: Danny O’Regan is denied on a breakaway as Ruck stops the BU forward’s backhand shot.

First Period, 16:40, 2-0 BU: The Terriers have doubled their lead. BU forward Charlie McAvoy beat Ruck blocker side with a powerful wrist shot from inside the right faceoff circle.

First Period, 13:15, 1-0 BU: BU has opened the scoring. Terriers forward Bobo Carpenter had his initial shot in the slot blocked, but he batted at the puck right after with his back hand and it sailed over Huskies goalie Ryan Ruck. BU forward Robbie Baillargeon was credited with the goal. It appeared that he tipped the puck just before it crossed the line.

First Period, 11:38, 0-0: A potential 3-on-2 rush for BU was erased because of an offside. A tough break for the Terriers after they forced a turnover at the Huskies blue line.

First Period, 11:00, 0-0: Huskies forward Mike McMurtry stole the puck from BU D-man Brandon Hickey in the Terriers zone, but his breakaway scoring attempt was thwarted by BU goalie Sean Maguire.

First Period, 8:00, 0-0: Huskies forward Sam Kurker gets off a shot from the slot but it’s blocked in front of the crease by a BU defenseman. Just three shots on net through the first eight minutes of action.

First Period, 3:30, 0-0: Northeastern is controlling the majority of play so far and has an early 2-0 edge in shots on goal.

First Period, 0:01, 0-0: The puck has been dropped and we’re underway!
